The lack of unnecessary detail or complicated digits suggests an artificial construct; a bio-weapon with simplistic claws energized for cutting and an armored head resembling a bullet. It almost reminds me of an F117, made of dark, smooth composite materials.

Naturally, something goes terribly wrong and the MUTOS grow out of control and the military complex uses the civilian-friendly Massive Unidentified Target Organism acronym to cover it's ass.

Also, ask yourself what's up with the red tracers during the HALO jump and all the red flares. I'm betting they are targeting Godzilla for the MUTOS much like a laser paints a Target for a predator drone missile. The soldiers might not even know why; just following orders.

The MUTOs might be radiation leaches. It makes sense from a military perspective; take G's radiation and you take his power.

It probably backfires by turning them from bio-weapons into rampaging radiation junkies or deadly eight-legged plutonium rods that kill everything within miles by simple exposure"
