Cytat:A Twitter account known as “Hollywood Horror Museum” posted a cryptic Tweet stating “Someone we know who is ‘in the know’ just let something very interesting slip about the future of Twin Peaks, if it’s true, we’ll be squealing and giddy in 2020!”
Shortly after that Tweet Micheal Horse (Deputy Hawk) shared a mysterious photograph of himself being told to be quiet by Andy Brennan
Kyle Maclachlan (Agent Cooper) then shared a photo of Agent Cooper on Twitter and said “Love this dapper suit, but definitely thinking about...donuts this morning”
Various other cast member also shared cryptic photos and posts around this time.
Various other sources and YouTube channels also claimed to have “insider info” regarding a continuation of the Twin Peaks franchise;
A website known as “Recapped.com” reported that a new David Lynch film was being casted, and that the lead required “Tasteful nudity. Actress with dark hair in their mid to late 20s.”
Roughly a week later that same website updated their description with more info: “Turns out the project might actually be a limited series for a very popular streaming service instead. Also, they may have aged up the lead to an actress in their 30s now but nudity is apparently still required for the role.”
In 2018-2019 there were also reports that Naomi Watts and Laura Dern were seen together with Lynch having lunch. Is it possible that the lead is either one of these two actresses?
Shortly after this websites information went viral among the David Lynch/Twin Peaks community, various sources across Reddit made mention of a project code named “Wisteria”
I couldn’t find one specific source regarding “Wisteria”, simply multiple users on the site were reporting on it
The details of “Wisteria” leaked at the time (by multiple users) were:
Production begins in May 2020, $85 million budget, will be on a popular streaming service (assumed to be Netflix), an LA shoot, and will either be 25 1-hour long episodes/parts, or 13 “mini-movies” (overall somewhere between 13-25 hours one source told me)
Around this time David Lynch creates a YouTube channel, and many fans think he has been dropping “hints” over the fast few months regarding a new project
Starting to feel more like Twin Peaks now (Oct 2020)
In an interview, David Lynch reveals that if it wasn’t for the pandemic he’d be “Making a film or continuing story” David Lynch Says He’ll be ‘Making a Film’ After Lockdown | IndieWire
This creates a lot of buzz within the community, and fans begin to speculate that this could be referring to the Twin Peaks franchise
Around the same time this article gets published, the owner of a YouTube channel known as “Obnoxious & Anonymous” reports that he gained insider info regarding this Lynch project (of course, this source isn’t known to be too reliable)
The Youtube channel states that his source claimed that “Lynch never stopped filming” after The Return finished production, and that a season 4 or movie in the Twin Peaks universe was in development or finished.
The website “What’s on Netflix” reported that they spotted in issue 1222 of “ProductionWeekly”, a listing for an upcoming “Series” for Netflix, directed and written by David Lynch, produced by Sabrina Sutherland, code named “Wisteria”, would be an LA shoot (edit: A Twitter user has suggested that it’s a London shoot, at Calvert Studios) and would have 200 shooting days, and production would begin in May 2021
A user on Twitter asked Mark Frost if he was involved in this alleged project, to which Mark Frost claimed “No” (remember though, he also had no involvement in FWWM either)
On a specific episode of “TODAY’S NUMBER IS...” on David Lynch’s YouTube channel, that was published on 11/30, had footage of a red curtain seemingly flowing in the wind. This is, as far as I know, the first time he has used this footage.
David Lynch has claimed in the past that he believes the medium of Television is the “new Arthouse”. This is great news as Lynch doesn’t see any limitation working in this medium.
Some concerns of mine:
- Will the alleged $85 million budget be enough? It most likely will, but during the production and shooting of The Return Lynch wanted to shoot or render certain scenes but couldn’t due to budget constraints.
- time constraints were a pressing issue on the production of The Return, leading to being able to do a limited number of takes for scenes, and not enough time to “dream up” things, and Lynch out it.
- Will Netflix give Lynch the freedom he deserves? As far as I know Netflix hasn’t had too many “culty” directors on their platform, so having someone like Lynch will surely be unique and great for the platform.
- I hope Lynch doesn’t feel pressured to film anything he doesn’t want to, such as continuing Twin Peaks in some form.
- Due to the age of streaming services, when a new series debuts each season (or parts, chapters, etc) it’s usually released all at once. With The Return, each part was released one week apart from another, and I personally prefer this method of distribution. Yes, binge watching is fun and all, but the communal discussion from week to week is just so engaging, interesting, and overall unforgettable.
Martwi to że to będzie na Netflixie, co może oznaczać że będą mu chciali wciskać swoją wizję jak kiedyś Bob Iger.
David czekamy!
